If you keep pulling out your hair, whether it is on your head, your eyelashes, eyebrows or other body hair, and cannot stop, then you might have trichotillomania. If you cannot stop yourself from picking at your skin or nails, then you might have compulsive skin picking. Very young children can get this disorder and may also pick at plush toys, pets, or clothing.
Successful therapy includes designing a specific profile for your pulling or picking habit and designing multiple interventions to interrupt and decrease the habit, called comprehensive behavioral therapy (ComB). Treatment helps you restore your hair, skin or nails while learning useful ways to manage stress.
