Insomnia

What is it?

If you have trouble getting to sleep, staying asleep or getting enough sleep and you worry about it, then you might have insomnia.  Insomnia in children and adults is very common in anxiety disorders and is best treated using cognitive behavioral interventions.

How we treat it?

Successful treatment for insomnia involves eliminating behaviors and situations that interfere with sleep onset, enhancing sleep drive and getting rid of the anxiety and worry about sleep that interferes with a good night’s sleep.  For children, it involves learning to trust their own ability to fall asleep and stay asleep instead of relying upon parents.
