Generalized Anxiety Disorder

What is it?

If you, or your child, worries about getting serious illness and repeatedly seeks reassurance by looking up medical information, talking to others or are so afraid you avoid medical settings, then you might have an illness anxiety disorder.

How we treat it?

Successful treatment of GAD can include cognitive behavioral therapy, worry exposure, relaxation and mindful meditation training, acceptance and commitment therapy, inference-based cognitive behavioral therapy and medication.  Treatment involves learning to relax your body, learning to tolerate uncertainty and learning effective ways to solve problems and manage stress without resorting to worry and reassurance seeking.
