Maha Zayed, Ph.D.


Philosophy of Care:

Dr. Zayed is an engaging psychologist who approaches each patient with compassion and empathy. Personable and easygoing, she encourages patients to confront their fears and teaches them how to live the best life they can.  Part cheerleader, part coach, she works with patients to do the difficult work required to overcome their anxiety.  Dr. Zayed involves parents in treatment, providing valuable guidelines and motivational techniques so they can best support their children.  She often uses silliness and humor with patients of all ages to put them at ease and encourage them to confront their fears  Dr. Zayed is comfortable utilizing a variety of interventions, tailoring treatment to meet each patient’s specific situation so they can best manage their own anxiety.

Special Interests:

Dr. Zayed successfully treats all types of anxiety, including OCD, social anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, and school refusal. She often utilizes exposure-based therapy, and is able to provide treatment both in the office and in real-life situations where patients feel the most anxiety.  She relates particularly well with adolescents, teens and young adults.

In her free time, Dr. Zayed enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Experience and Training:

Dr. Maha Zayed earned her Ph.D. from Northern Illinois University. She completed her doctoral internship at Dartmouth College and the National Center for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder. As a licensed clinical psychologist, she specializes in the use of cognitive behavioral therapy in the treatment of children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Zayed has extensive training in cognitive behavior therapy, including the prestigious Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) course offered by the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF). She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, where she often speaks on the topic of anxiety.
