Ben Harris, MA, LCPC


Philosophy of Care:

Ben places great value on having a full understanding of the needs of each patient, and customizes his treatment to each patient’s unique concerns. He is empathetic to the courage demonstrated by entering into treatment, and develops trusting relationships with his patients. Ben uses the most effective, evidence-based treatments including cognitive behavior therapy and exposure therapy, to provide the best opportunity to overcome anxiety and live a more meaningful life. He also recognizes the importance of humor and self-compassion in helping patients reduce the impact of their anxiety.

Special Interests:

Ben is skilled at working with patients suffering from all types of anxiety, and specializes in using cognitive behavioral therapy to treat Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders such as trichotillomania (hair pulling), dermotillomania (skin picking) and Body Dysmorphic Disorder. He provides a safe, trusting environment in which both adults and children can feel comfortable and confident in their abilities to reach their goals.

In his free time, Ben enjoys reading, going to new places, and above all, spending time with his wife and daughter. A native of Montana, he has a strong appreciation for nature and open spaces, although he’s learned to enjoy what the big city has to offer!

Experience and Training:

Ben Harris, LCPC, received his Master of Arts in Psychology from Northern Illinois University, where he first discovered his passion and talent for working with people who struggle with OCD and Anxiety. Ben has devoted his career to becoming increasingly knowledgeable and skilled in his treatment approaches. He has completed specialized trainings through the International OCD Foundation and Trichotillomania Learning Center, and he regularly attends conferences. Prior to his work at ATC, Ben worked at a private practice in a rural Illinois community for several years, where he was an integral part of providing high-quality, effective treatment for the community and offered a support group for families and friends of individuals suffering from OCD and Anxiety. Ben is a member of the International OCD Foundation, the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, and the Trichotillomania Learning Center.
