Autism Spectrum Disorder with Anxiety

What is it?

If you are on the autism spectrum, then there is an 80% chance you will experience significant anxiety, either from social anxiety, worry, specific phobias about sensory events or even OCD. Getting the help you need to overcome anxiety needs to be individually tailored to your skills and needs to help you overcome anxiety.

How we treat it?

Successful therapy includes assessing areas of difficulty in reading the social environment, assessing sensory needs and developing an individualized way for you to improve emotional self-regulation, decrease anxiety and improve social skills and expand social relationships, when necessary. Graduated exposure therapy may prove helpful for addressing specific phobias that developed from sensory sensitivities. Parent skills training and involving partners in treatment to improve understanding and communication can be very helpful. Our team will also assist with developing or improving school accommodations when necessary.
