Body Dysmorphic Disorder

What is it?

If you feel tortured by some specific aspect of your appearance that is not related to gaining weight, then you might have BDD. If you have BDD, you might feel compelled to camouflage or hide the parts of your body you find upsetting or even avoid going out in public or avoid brightly lit social events to keep from feeling painfully self-conscious. You might also find it very difficult to avoid thinking about the part of your body that upsets you.

How we treat it?

Successful treatment involves using cognitive behavioral therapies and gradual decrease of camouflaging behaviors, improving your relationships and teaching you to refocus your life upon the things other than your appearance that really matter to your long-term happiness.  You will also learn to redefine what beauty means both inside and out beyond just your physical appearance.
